Remember that guarantee from Coach Ben Howland? In between games at Cal and Stanford last season, the Bruins’ coach said that Luc Richard Mbah a Moute would become a great shooter. Not just a good shooter, mind you, but a great shooter.
The jury is still out – the 6-foot-8 forward has hit only 22.1 percent of his three-point attempts in his career. But he has garnered some support from Darren Collison, the Bruins’ point guard.
“He looks great, real great,” he said. “The thing I’m most impressed with is his jump shot. We all knew Luc already had a jump shot, but just the fact that he has more reps in it and he’s feeling more comfortable with it. Luc, he’s coming along real well and I think he’s going to have a real good season this year.”
CHANGE COMING
The Bruins are commemorating their 100 NCAA championships in a number of ways – including making the ‘C’ in UCLA stand out more by making it a different color than the U, L and A.
On the new men’s basketball uniforms the C – the Roman numeral for 100 – was in gold and the other letters the traditional blue.
It looked … odd.
“I don’t know about the different colored C, but I’m real happy for UCLA,” Collison said.
Apparently, some athletic department officials felt the same way after the uniform tops were unveiled. The letter will be changed so that it has a blue border around the letter ‘C.’
