UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero is interviewing Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator Rick Neuheisel on Friday, as he and the Bruins’ search committee seek a new football coach.
Neuheisel has been a college head coach at Colorado and Washington. He was fired at the Pac-10 in 2003 school after participating in a neighborhood NCAA Tournament basketball pool. He later was cleared of any wrongdoing and received a $4.5 million settlement.
The former UCLA quarterback was a volunteer coach at Rainier Beach High in Seattle for two years while that case was pending, and was hired by the Ravens in 2005 as a quarterback coach.

I hope that Dan Guerrero does not hire Neuheisel. As a UCLA graduate, my loyalties run deep. Despite his strong ties with UCLA, Neuheisel would be a mistake. He ended up being an embarrassment at both Washington and Colorado and I’m not talking about football. He was often a distraction at Colorado and his professional conduct was not exemplary at both schools. Sure he was vindicated at Washington but his conduct has not been above reproach. Do we really want this guy as a role model? Coaches should be in the business of not only building winning programs but helping boys grow into men.
